Our catalog has a new look!
Please see this tutorial for instructions on how to search the new interface. You may notice that some of the links on our webpages have changed or been removed. We are working hard behind the scenes to create a revamped research experience. Please email the library if you have any questions.
You can search the catalog by going to the library website and using the search bar.

Using our basic search bar will automatically search everything the library has access to (this includes physical holdings and e-resources). When searching the library catalog, you can search for specific titles or general subjects. The way you search will determine how many search results are retrieved and how relevant they are. See the next tab on "Advanced Searching" for tips on refining your search results.
You can also access our catalogs by using the links at the top of the page on our website.
"Advanced Search" will bring you directly to the advanced search function in our "Search Everything" catalog EDS (EBSCO Discovery Services).
"Search Everything" will allow you to search print and electronic resources (everything we have access to).
Our "Search for printed books & media" link will direct you to a secondary catalog (Locate) where you can search for materials that you can check out from the library.

Unlike a simple search, advance search can be used for any type of search. An advanced search works well when you have multiple keywords or phrases that you want to use.
In the library catalog click "Advanced Search" below to the search bar and a new search will pop up.
Enter each search term in a separate search bar. Next to each search bar there will be a few drop-down menus that you can use to refine your results.

1. (red) "All Fields"
This box is used to search specific fields of a catalog record. If you choose "author" then you will only get results where your search term appears in the author field of the record. If your search term is used in the title or other parts of the text, those results will not show.
2. (green) "AND"
This box is used for narrowing or expanding your search. Using AND/OR when you use multiple search terms will affect your results. See the examples and Ven diagrams below for tips on using AND/OR in your search.

Use "AND" & "OR" to narrow or expand your search. Using "AND" will only show results that contain both words/phrases (narrows your search). Using "OR" will show results that contain at least one of the words/phrases (expands your search).
Keep in mind that searching the catalog or databases should be done using keywords rather than phrases. If you are using a phrase, then make sure to put it in quotation marks to keep those words together in your search. From the previous example if you search presidential elections vs "presidential elections" you will get different results.
If you need to add more words or phrases in your search you can use the "+ Add fields" button to create a new line with the same drop-down menus and search bar.

You can use filters to help refine your search in many ways.
In our Locate catalog (printed books and media) filters are located on the left side of the screen. You can filter by item status, format, location, publisher, language, and publication year.
In our EDS catalog (search everything), filters are located below the search bar. Click on "All Filters" to open a list of filters on the side of the screen. Many of the filters are the same as our printed media catalog. Additional filters include content provider, subject, and geography.
Two of the most common filters to use for research will be at the top of the list.
Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals: These will be scholarly articles you can use for research in your classes. Professors will often require you to use these types of resources.
Full text: Some results may only give you the abstract (summary) of an article. If you want to make sure you are only viewing sources that give you access to the entire text, you should make sure this box is checked. (If you can only find an abstract of an article you want you can click on *Request this item. See the page on "Borrowing from Another Library" for more information.

Some professors will have materials for their courses on reserve at the library. These materials do not checkout for the entire semester; checkout periods will vary depending on the professor. Checkout times range from "in library use only" to 14 days.
You can always take pictures of a few pages at the circulation desk if needed or scan up to one chapter. All checkouts require you to have your WarriorOne card. We do not accept digital IDs.
To search for course reserves you will need to be in our print catalog (Locate). On the library homepage click on "Search printed books & media" to access the catalog.
At the top of the screen click on "Browse" then "Course Reserves"
Here you can search by course code, course name, instructor, or department.

The concept map allows you to search for terms related to your query.
Simply type in the word you want to use and click SEARCH.
You'll then have the option to view your results as a "map" or grid by selecting one at the top of the screen.
