Training Guide for Circulation

Schedules

The Library uses LibStaffer to schedule student workers. You can log in and check it at any time. Please contact your supervisors if you have any questions or concerns.

You will work with your supervisor to set up a schedule. Student employees generally work from 8-12 hours per week.

We understand that school comes first. Schedules can change quickly during the first two weeks of class, as new students are hired, and current students adjust their schedules. Please check LibStaffer and Teams frequently during that time.

After the first two weeks of class, schedules are generally set. Please make sure your schedule will work for the entire semester, as rearranging the schedule after that is very difficult.

We use Microsoft Teams to communicate schedule changes, or time off requests. This is our department's main method of communication.

Getting Paid

Timekeeping

Paper time cards will be placed in employee boxes at the beginning of each pay period. All student employees are responsible for complete and accurate reporting of hours worked on the time card. Supervisors will send a reminder via Teams to staff when time cards are due. Work study and non-work study student employees are responsible for recording hours worked into the electronic system (Luma). Luma is located on the Idaho State Controller’s Office website, www.sco.idaho.gov. All work study employees are expected to attend Luma workshops.

If your time cards are not completed on time, you and your supervisor will both be in trouble.

Direct Deposit

LCSC requires direct deposit, which will be set up through Human Resources (HR) during the hiring process. Any changes in payroll information, such as bank account number, should be submitted to HR. First paycheck will be received on second pay period after start date.

Office of the State Controller

Access to pay stubs, timecards and to W-2 forms, is through the website for the Office of the State Controller (www.sco.idaho.gov). Payroll will set up a temporary user name and initial password to enable access to the site. If you have difficulty logging in, contact Judy at 792-2204 for instructions.

Paydays

All employees are paid every other Friday for the previous pay period. Example:

Work period: April 3 – April 16

Paid on: April 29

Important Tax Information

Often student employee income does not exceed the amount required to file federal or state taxes; as a result, withholding taxes will not be taken from earnings. Check the first two pay stubs to see if taxes have been withheld. If no taxes are withheld, you may have to pay taxes at the end of the year.
